Asus Eee PC
Hardware
"Tiny but has everything that you would expect from a larger notebook"

The Eee PC sub-notebook was released in October 2007, and a new generation is due to be released in April 2008, it runs on default Linux xandros this is mainly because it avoids both licensing costs of windows and its larger software requirements, therefore making the Eee much cheaper as well as speedier. However Windows XP adapts well to the tiny notebook. It has a full Qwerty keyboard, however it is very small and unusual to type at a high speed, and the keys seem fragile and wobbly. The design is very different from most conventional laptops, when closed the Eee is 1inch thick, and is the same size as a DVD case. Weighing just 927grams, and 1.1kg with power adaptor, it is ideal for business travel, or just simply traveling altogether.

New Software Allows User To Reach Out And Touch, Virtually
General newsEuropean researchers have pioneered a breakthrough interface that allows people to touch, stretch and pull virtual fabrics that feel like the real thing. The new multi-modal software linked to tactile hardware and haptics devices have enormous potential for shopping, design and human-machine interaction.

A revolutionary new interface allows users to really feel virtual textiles. The system combines a specially designed glove, a sophisticated computer model and visual representation to reproduce the sensation of cloth with an impressive degree of realism.

“It is a multi-modal approach that has never been tried before,” says Professor Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann, coordinator of the HAPTEX project. HAPTEX stands for Haptic sensing of virtual textiles. Read More...
